Your Words Are So Powerful!

Mrs. Buck's update for October 23rd 2006

We began a new chapter in spelling this morning.  After working with our words, we explored the vocabulary from our new story:  Guys from Space.  It looks like it will be very funny.  Our skill this week in reading is determining realistic information and fantasy information.  After working in our literacy groups, we practiced our handwriting.  We worked on single letters today:  I and O.  It was helpful in reminding us how to form these letters.  Singular possessive nouns was our topic today in grammar.  Boy, is that a mouthful!  We did an excellent job identifying these nouns in sentences.  In Mr. Peabody’s Apples, the theme of being mindful of your words tied in nicely to our weekly theme of peace, friendship, and good will.  In math, we began subtraction.  Did you know that there are four different means of subtraction?  Ask us about them!  After lunch, we worked on our fabulous science project of the human body.  Friendship is definitely the theme of Charlotte’s Web.  It is quickly becoming one of our favorite books.
