Folktale Plays are Fabulous!

Mrs. Buck's update for January 26th 2007

TGIF!  After a morning of spelling activities and a Word Ladder sheet, we made spicy sentences for our Word of the Day:  “prettier.”  Meeting in literacy groups, working at centers, and completing a class book was fun and productive.  Our spelling and selection test followed.  You should hear the folktale plays we read today!  They are hilarious!  In one, Queen Midas turns everything she touches to chocolate, including five soccer players!  We had a ball reading our lines.  After indoor recess and lunch, we read our SSR books.  On Fridays, we can read any book we’d like.  In math, we worked with function machines.  We found patterns based on the input and output.  This helped prepare us even more for Tuesday’s test.  In art, we created turtles in the spirit of Ananse’s Feast from our reader.  Writing folktales or adjective lists about turtles reinforced important writing skills.  Have a most enjoyable weekend!  Bundle up!
