Do You Know About Chinese New Year Leisees?

Mrs. Buck's update for January 30th 2007

Our Tuesday began with spelling activities and a Word Ladder sheet.  Our Word Wall Wizard Word of the Day was:  “pretty.”  After reviewing our homework, we worked in our grammar textbook.  Adjectives describe nouns, but they can also compare two or more persons or things.  We talked about how the different endings act as clues in the sentences.  This tied in nicely to our Word Wall mini-lesson yesterday about how the spelling of “pretty” changes when it becomes “prettier” and “prettiest.”  In reading, we found out what Sam and the Lucky Money is going to be about.  Be sure to ask us about leisees.  Our prediction about the ending might be true!  A book about a little girl who takes a trip to China revealed to us many different things about Chinese culture.  Did you know that Chinese children receive two names when they are born and that they celebrate their first birthday the day that they are born?  The BFG and Sophie are having breakfast with the Queen in The BFG.  After recess, we checked out the wonderful Science Fair projects.  They are really interesting!  Who knew that taking a bath uses less water than taking a shower?  We were glad to have some time in the computer lab with Mrs. Nolan since we couldn’t have gym class.  Our afternoon was filled with music, erupting volcanoes, and division.  What a busy, fun day!
