Dr. Seuss Week Has Begun!

Mrs. Buck's update for February 28th 2007

You should have seen the Dr. Seuss hat Mrs. Buck was wearing to celebrate our theme of Dr. Seuss!  Happy Dr. Seuss Week!  Our Monday began with a pair of word searches about Dr. Seuss books.  Some of them were tricky, but we figured them out.  Dr. Seuss sure wrote a lot of books!  After meeting with our literacy groups, we read Oh, The Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss.  We enjoyed brainstorming and sharing ideas about who we’d like to meet someday and where we’d like to go.  This served as a starting point for our goal-setting activity.  We learned about short-term and long-term goals.  Our writing pieces about how to achieve one of our goals will be fantastic.  We are very motivated to start this writing!  After recess, we learned about dividing by 8’s.  We drew pictures from Dr. Seuss books and grouped them to show division sentences and the corresponding multiplication sentences.  Roscuro sounds like he’s up to no good in The Tale of Despereaux.  What do you think will happen now that Pea has seen him hanging from the chandelier?  After lunch, we copied our homework and had SSR.  In religion, we took notes on key religion vocabulary and listened to Sunday’s Gospel about Jesus being tempted.  The stories we shared and questions we asked were inspiring!  In social studies, we continued improving our map skills by learning about the four main directions.  Don’t forget:  Never Eat Soggy Waffles!!
