Our Five Senses Are So Important!
Mrs. Buck's update for March 26th 2007
A new chapter in spelling with “ed” and “ing” endings began our Monday morning. Our Word of the Day today was: “two.” After meeting in our literacy groups, we discussed our new vocabulary for our weekly story: More Than Anything Else. It is a biography about Booker T. Washington. Ask us what it was that Booker wanted to do more than anything else. Our weekly theme of the five senses has us excited. We enjoyed filling out KWL charts about what we know about this topic and some things we want to learn. We listened to Outside, Inside, which is a book about spring. There were many different sensory words throughout the book and we used a flip chart to organize which words connect to which sense. Handwriting practice followed. After recess, we began exploring multiplication of two digit numbers. Wow! Can you believe we are already learning these ideas in math? It’s great! A math maintenance sheet reviewed key skills. Singing our multiplication songs helped us remember our essential math facts. After lunch, we worked on the eighth Station of the Cross: Jesus Meets the Weeping Women. This Station shows the true compassion of Jesus. In social studies, we continued working with maps and continents.
