Do You Know What “Pennsylvania” Means?
Mrs. Buck's update for May 24th 2007
We started our day by adding finishing touches to our Modern Day Benjamin Franklin projects. They look super! Our Word of the Day today was: “you’re.” After working with “ui” and “ew” in phonics, we headed to literacy centers. We finished reading Floating Home. Space travel sure sounds interesting! Can you imagine floating around with no gravity? A game of Sparkle and a Spelling Bee had us flexing our spelling muscles. Little Bear’s wife’s name is Bright Stars in The Indian in the Cupboard. It’s a little sad that Omri will be turning them back into plastic. After recess, we worked on a Math Minute. A quick check of our math homework followed. Our new topic today in math was renaming measurement. It can be a little tricky at times. The helpful hints assisted us in our efforts. The newspaper articles we are writing for the end of the year are going to be spectacular. We enjoyed listening to the writing pieces from last year’s class. After lunch, we copied homework and read our SSR books. In religion, we talked about the Ascension and the rosary. We reflected on the third Glorious Mystery today. In social studies, we learned about William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania. Singing practice in the afternoon left us in a musical mood.
