Adjectives Can Turn Writing From Ordinary to Extraordinary!
Mrs. Buck's update for January 25th 2008
Our Wonderful Word of the Day today was: relation. It was a tough one to use in a sentence! After spelling activities and homework review, we listened to Coyote Places the Stars on cd. Then, we took our spelling and reading tests. Practicing our u’s and w’s in handwriting is helping us to work on our letter slant. Sophie and the BFG have come up with a great plan to stop the giants from guzzling up little “chiddlers”! Be sure to ask us about it! After recess, we explored adjectives in grammar. Mrs. Buck loves adjectives because they make books so much more interesting! Sensory words can really make a book come alive! In math, we started learning early division concepts. We used buttons to work hands-on with division as sharing. We separated amounts of buttons into equal groups. We practiced in our homework workbooks also. In religion, we listened to Sunday’s Gospel about Jesus calling his disciples. We are called to be disciples of Jesus too. To more fully understand our role as members in the church, we created membership cards! We were so excited about this! They look very official! After lunch, we had a Mystery Reader. In social studies, we began learning about globes. We labeled the seven continents and four oceans. Mrs. Buck also gave us some cheers and rhymes to help us remember all the continents’ and oceans’ names. At the end of the day, we had a cheerful music class with Mrs. Smart. Have a splendid weekend!
