Happy Student Appreciation Day!
Mrs. Buck's update for January 28th 2008
Our day began with our Wonderful Word of the Day: release. What is something you might catch and then release? After working with our new spelling words that all have the “ur” sound, we met at the carpet to explore our new vocabulary. We broke up into our Write, Draw, and Show groups. Our work during this activity just gets better and better every week! In handwriting, we practiced our lowercase “r’s” and reviewed our “t’s”, “i’s”, “w’s”, and “u’s”. Reading about a very peculiar dinosaur in our Weekly Reader was fun! We also used a labeled diagram to answer questions about its features. Sophie and the BFG are really going to carry out their special plan. The BFG mixed up the dream and it is one whoppsy trogglehumper! After recess, we worked on a math maintenance sheet. We also took our first timed test on multiplication facts for the 2’s for this week. We will be taking one every day this week and then using our best score as a test grade. Next week is the 5’s. In math, we learned about how subtraction is similar to repeated subtraction. We drew out division problems and worked through the problems visually. Did you know that the answer you get when you divide is called the quotient? What a funny word! In religion, we read about the sacramentals. We also enjoyed thinking about short blessings we might pray to God throughout the day. God loves to hear from us! After lunch with our prayer buddies and recess, we copied our homework and read our SSR books. The Academic Challenge made for a fun, educational afternoon! Each class had representatives who competed. The questions involved all different areas of the curriculum. Mrs. Buck had a great time being the Question-Asker. We also loved eating the special ice cream treat!
