You Should Meet Our Division Dudes!

Mrs. Buck's update for January 29th 2008

Our Wonderful Word of the Day today was:  represent.  What do you represent?  After working on spelling activities and reviewing our homework, we read Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ears.  It was neat to see the actual printed copy of the book as we read along.  After practicing our lowercase “s” and “p” in cursive, we made magnificent Valentine’s Day cards for our platoon of soldiers fighting in Iraq.  They look beautiful with hearts and glitter galore!  After recess, we took our Math Maintenance.  To begin learning division, we created Division Dudes.  We used these mini puppets to visually show division sentences in action.  They each have two eyes, a nose, a mouth, hair, two arms, five stripes, and two buttons.  It was a blast creating these little figures!  We also had to figure out the division facts for specific number families and write them on accompanying speech bubbles.  The Dudes are in the hallway and they look awesome!  Gym class with Mr. Bruno was fun as always.  Sophie and the BFG have headed off to England.  Will their plan work?  We can’t wait to find out.  After lunch, we copied our homework and read our SSR books.  In social studies, we began working on our “Where We Live” diagrams.  Can you believe that you live in more than one place at one time?  Strange, huh?  At the end of the day, we headed up to the Book Fair to browse for items we might like to purchase.
