We Began Reading Mrs. Buck’s Favorite Book: The Tale of Despereaux!

Mrs. Buck's update for February 19th 2008

The Wonderful Word of the Day today was:  suspicious.  When have you felt suspicious?  After working on a cloze activity about George Washington and using our context clues skills, we worked on a Word Ladder sheet to practice decoding and vocabulary.  Next, we worked in our literacy groups.  We took Part I of our Theme 2 Unit 1 Reading Test.  Reading about George Washington’s teeth gave us a lot of information about our first President.  After recess, we took a timed test on multiplication facts for 3.  Mrs. Buck modeled solving division problems with remainders for us and then we worked on several with partners.  Mrs. Buck is very impressed with our work with this tricky topic.  At the end of math class, we used dice to create and solve multiple factor multiplication problems.  It was so much fun!  We began reading The Tale of Despereaux.  Despereaux sounds like a marvelous character.  We can’t wait to find out more about him!  Mr. Bruno had us working up a sweat in gym class.  After lunch, we copied our homework and read our SSR books.  In social studies, we read about President’s Day in our textbooks and also learned more information about George Washington.  At the end of the week, we will use this information to complete graphic organizers about some of our past presidents.  Our science Pre-Lab prepared us for our lab tomorrow.  We are going to be working with a series of circuits.  It will be our last lab about electricity.
