What Do You Know About Abraham Lincoln?

Mrs. Buck's update for February 20th 2008

Our day began with a fun connect the dots sheet of George Washington and a new Word Ladder.  At the science lab, we explored series and parallel circuits.  It was neat to see how they are different.  Do you know the difference between the two?  In reading, we worked in our literacy groups.  We also read two of our mini plays:  Queen Midas and The Prince Frog.  It was a lot of fun!  Practicing our lowercase d’s and q’s reminded us to take our time with penmanship.  Despereaux has met and fallen in love with Princess Pea in The Tale of Despereaux.  What will the Mouse Council decide?  After recess, we read several examples of poems with alliteration.  We discussed this type of figurative language and also composed two examples of alliterative poetry.  Tomorrow, we will be writing our own poems using alliteration and then editing in small share groups.  In math, we took a timed test and then learned about the different patterns for dividing 10, 11, and 12.  We began focusing on the Stations of the Cross in religion class.  We viewed a slide about the First Station:  Jesus is Condemned.  We listened to the meaning of this Station and prayed that God will help us do what we are asked to do even if it is not easy.  Reflecting about when people were screaming at Jesus and telling lies about Him helped us understand how He must have felt.  Our first footprints in our Stations of the Cross booklets look amazing.  After lunch, we copied our homework, read our SSR books, and took our social studies test.  We also read about Abraham Lincoln and talked about his life.  We had many questions about slavery and what life was like when “Honest Abe” was President.
