Where Are Your Ancestors From?

Mrs. Buck's update for March 27th 2008

We began our Thursday morning with vocabulary work and spelling activities. In reading, we finished reading Cocoa Ice and were surprised to find out that both little girls in the story enjoyed frozen sweet treats. Library with Mrs. C followed. After recess, we had our Post-Lab for science. We discussed how the position of the earth around the sun affects the four seasons in North America and South America. In math, we took a timed test on the 7’s, worked on a maintenance sheet, and also discussed choosing the appropriate computation method. In grammar, we learned about past tense verbs. Many of our spelling words this week are verbs in the past tense, so it was nice to make that connection. After lunch, we read our SSR books and copied our homework. In religion, we took notes about the liturgical year and continued exploring the season of Easter. We also worked on a religion maintenance sheet. In social studies, we enjoyed plotting where our ancestors came from on a world map in the hallway. We have so much diversity in our classroom; it is fun to celebrate it! At the end of the day, we listened to half of Cocoa Ice on cd to prepare for tomorrow’s comprehension test and also practice listening/reading strategies.
