What Would You Do With a Million Dollars?
Mrs. Buck's update for March 31st 2008
Our Monday began with a review of vocabulary words from previous Words of the Day. We also began a new chapter in spelling with the “tion” or “sion” endings. In reading, we explored our new weekly vocabulary by completing “Write, Draw, Show.” Our ideas are becoming more and more clever every week. In The Tale of Despereaux, Boticello lied to Despereaux and pretended to want to help him. What will happen next? After recess, we took a timed test on the 8’s multiplication facts and also completed a math maintenance sheet. Using logical reasoning to problem solve was our math topic today. We worked together on several problems that had us really thinking. Creating tables and charts help solve these types of problems. It was fun to write about what we would do with if we had a million dollars. This tied into our weekly theme of money and saving. Our story this week in our reader is all about this topic. A dental hygienist for the school district came today to inspect our smiles and check on our dental health. In religion, we learned about the Fourth and Fifth Commandments: “Honor your father and your mother” and “You shall not kill.” We discussed what these mean for us, as third graders. After lunch, we read our SSR books and copied our homework. In social studies, we began learning about transportation and communication. Boy, how things have changed! Our day ended with a painting art class with Mrs. McQueen.
