The Story of John Henry Is Inspirational!

Mrs. Buck's update for May 20th 2008

Vocabulary review and spelling activities started our morning off with a bang!  After reviewing our homework, we met in our literacy groups to work at Centers, Class Book, and with Mrs. Buck.  In science, we worked on our Pre-Lab for tomorrow’s Lab.  We discussed the difference between direct and indirect sunlight.  It will be neat to see how sunglasses, clothing, and sun tan lotion help protect our skin during tomorrow’s experiments.  We continued writing our alliteration poems for our End of the Year writing assessment.  After recess, we continued exploring measurement.  Today, we converted between inches, feet, and yards.  A quick practice for our End of the Year Celebration followed.  Gym class with Mr. Bruno was a good time.  After lunch, we copied our homework and read our SSR books.  In the afternoon, we finished learning about John Henry.  Stories about him illustrate how you should always believe in yourself and try to achieve your goals.  In religion, we prayed another decade of the rosary.  We read about the Third Glorious Mystery:  The Descent of the Holy Spirit.  We just celebrated this at Pentecost.  As a way to remember the names of the 12 Apostles and their feast days, we created informational mobiles.  They will look fantastic hanging from the ceiling!  We ended our day by reading the first half of Visitors from Space in our reading textbooks.
