Be Sure To Read Our Travel Brochures About The Planets!

Mrs. Buck's update for May 21st 2008

Happy Wednesday!  After working with vocabulary words and spelling activities, we headed down to the science lab.  We investigated how at different times of the day the sun is stronger.  We also explored how different forms of sun protection decrease UV light.  We tested items that represented clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen.  After the lab, we reviewed our homework.  Next, we met in our literacy groups.  After recess, we began reading Visitors From Space in our reading textbooks.  In math, we learned about the metric system of measurement.  We use this in the science lab so we are familiar with it.  Today, we measured objects using centimeters and decimeters.  As part of our weekly theme of travel, we created travel brochures with partners.  Each group had a different planet or dwarf planet.  You might want to visit these faraway places after reading our projects.  After lunch, we copied our homework and read our SSR books.  In religion, we took our test on Mary.  In social studies, we learned about John Chapman, also known as Johnny Appleseed.  After listening to a story about Johnny, we wrote sentences with adverbs about Johnny on apples.  It was a good way to tie grammar into social studies.  At the end of the day, we had computer class with Mr. D.
