We Are Excited About Our Africa Theme!
Mrs. Buck's update for March 1st 2010
We had a fantastic day today! Our Question of the Day today was: Have you ever seen a real elephant? (Eight of us have; Eight of us have not.) At our morning meeting, we talked about our new theme of Africa. We couldn’t believe that Pastor Chad is in Africa right now! Our Africa Show on March 26th is going to be incredible! In math, we finished up Centers from last week. Recess and snack followed. In language arts, we listened to two stories that we will be acting out for our Africa Show: Anansi and The Moss-Covered Rock and Anansi and The Talking Melon. We can’t wait to find out which parts we will all play! Our new word family this week is the “op” word family. After reviewing the sounds that the vowels make, we practiced our new weekly poem: The Hippopotamus. Finding Star Words and Challenge words in our poem is always fun! After recess and lunch, we had our Read-Aloud and then Quiet Time. Spanish class was next. Our journal topic today was: If I had a pet elephant, I would name it _____ because… In the afternoon, we made our Dr. Seuss hats for Dr. Seuss’s birthday tomorrow and wrote about why we are lucky.
