We Read Many Books While Wearing Red!
Mrs. Buck's update for May 24th 2010
We had a terrific day today! Our Question of the Day today was: Do you like to read books? (15 of us said yes; one of us said no.) After our morning meeting, we explored dividing objects in half in math. It was fun to use graham crackers for this lesson. We enjoyed eating them at the end! Recess and snack followed. After reading a book about a bug safari, we had language arts. We changed jobs and then read several books with reading buddies. It was fun to find a quiet space in the room to read with a buddy. We read many different little books and swapped with our friends when we were finished. Our new A to Z book this week is about Rocks. Our new weekly poem this week is: Raindrops. Afternoon recess and lunch came next. Our afternoon read-aloud was: The Tortoise and the Hare. We talked about how a fable is a story with animal characters that teaches us a lesson. After Quiet Time, we had Spanish with Miss Maureen. Our journal topic today was books. In the afternoon, we had Activity Time. One group played Star Word Bingo. Another group used Picture Dominoes. The third group played Star Power and made words using different vowels. The last group used seashells with letters and thought of words that end with the letters. Our day ended with new classroom jobs and a new Junie B. Jones called: Junie B. Jones’ and That Meanie Jim’s Birthday.
